Needles KOA Journey, Needles, CA

Last time I was in Needles, I stayed for a week at another RV Park by the river but this time, I was just going to stay for a quick overnight and needed a pull-thru so I booked here. It’s not by the river but there is a quick view of a piece of the river through the palm trees. I was coming from the east and missed the turn onto the county road (GPA quit) so had to turn around. Be forewarned, the turn onto the county road from River Road this direction is a sharp turn. My rig isn’t that long and I took both sides of the road and some of the shoulder. If you get off the highway coming from the west or if you make the correct turn the first time coming from the east, it’s fine.

This KOA has all the usual amenities, including pull-thru sites, a store with groceries, RV supplies, and souvenirs, a dog park, and laundry and showers. The employees were all very friendly and I was escorted to my site. I had nice conversations both at check-in and later when I was visiting the store. This part of the country gets very hot for much of the year. I’m here in the second week of April and it was almost 100 degrees F yesterday. I met a gentleman at the dog park last evening that said he was heading back to Montana, his home base, early this year because it’s already so hot.

I stayed in site #46 and had to let the office know that the sewer connection was higher than my motorhome. They apologized and said I was welcome to use the dump station on the way out or move over one site. The woman also said she would make a note to let everyone know not to put a motorhome in #46. Usually, travel trailers are higher off the ground. This wasn’t a major problem for me because I was only there overnight. If I was there longer, I might have tried to change sites.

You will find a lot of snow birds in this area all winter and there are a number of membership parks that cater to that crowd. I personally love this kind of scenery with blue mountains in the background framed by palm trees everywhere. And the Colorado River is a real delight although busy with tourists and recreationists year round.

If you choose to holiday in or pass through this area for a stop, be sure to make your reservations early, especially if you are here during the very popular winter season.
