The Desert — the good and the bad

Benson KOA was a typical KOA and we enjoyed our stay. Thousand Trails Palm Desert was a nightmare.

Benson KOA, Benson, AZ

Positives:

  • Quiet, easy on/off, large pull thru spaces
  • Stocked store with supplies and souvenirs
  • Dog walk area and off leash park
  • Propane
  • Helpful owners and employees and open 7 am to 7 pm

Negatives:

  • Someone’s dog walking around with no leash or collar; wanted to stay with my dogs
  • Too many stickers in the off leash park but we enjoyed walking the deserted road that parallels the KOA
  • $15 minimum cc charge in the store
Historical building — oldest adobe structure in the area

Thousand Trails Palm Desert

Positives:

  • Amenities like laundry and playground
  • All spaces are full hook up except for the tent spaces

Negatives:

  • Very tight spaces; dated infrastructure
  • Very rude staff at check-in (obviously hates women who travel alone)
  • Couldn’t find the dog run area that was showing on the map
